How to Get Your Student out of Bed in the Morning

After such a long summer break, many parents find getting their children out of bed in the morning to be an impossible task. If this rings true, below are some effective tips from The Tutoring Center, Sandestin to help your student get out of bed in the morning.

Move Their Alarm

If your student has an alarm beside their bed then it can be easy to simply roll over and switch it off. However, if they have to get out of bed to turn it off then they might as well stay out of bed. If you can, move your child’s alarm either to the other side of their bedroom or even at their bedroom door, requiring them to leave their warm and comfortable bed just to switch it off.

Reward an Early Morning

If your child has a favorite breakfast food, encourage them to get out of bed by cooking it before they wake up. While it may seem like something out of a cartoon in which a bear magically drifts to where there is delicious food being cooked, the smell of their favorite breakfast food can actually work to help get your student out of bed in the morning. You can even use this tip as a reward for them getting out of bed on time the day before.

Remove Electronic Devices

Just because your student goes to bed at the correct time doesn’t mean that they actually go to sleep. Instill a rule in which they are required to leave their electronic devices in the kitchen. This has two great benefits.
  1. It removes a bedroom distraction, helping them to drift off to sleep earlier.
  2. Needing to get out of bed and make their way to the kitchen to check their notifications and reply to messages can be a great motivator for a teen.
