How to Identify If Your Child Is Struggling with Poor Vision

Depending on how old your child is and what part of the country you live in, you may have already taken them to have their vision tested. But did you know that our vision changes throughout our lives and that often one of the first indications of eye problems can be falling behind at school? The Tutoring Center, Sandestin has put together this quick guide to explain what signs and symptoms of eye problems to look out for in your child.

Physical Signs

  • Red eyes for a long period of time
  • Eyes which are constantly watering
  • Constantly touching or rubbing their eyes

Behavioral Signs

  • Becoming distracted in class/misbehaving
  • Difficulty reading from the board
  • Lack of participation in class
  • Watching TV from a very close position
  • Problems reading
If you notice any of these issues, it is important to take your child to see an eye specialist such as an ophthalmologist right away. The sooner any visual issues are corrected, the lower the impact this will have on your child’s learning. If you identify any of these problems, speak to your child’s teacher about moving your child to a desk nearer the board, or to make alternative arrangements which can accommodate their needs.
