Having a bedtime routine is important in order to help your child perform better in their everyday life. If they don’t have a well-established sleep routine yet, here are some tips to create a successful one that may even help boost your child’s grades. Sleep is imperative for your child’s development. Just like a healthy diet and exercising can help your child be a better learner, sleep can boost their grades too. A good night’s rest can improve their memory, creative thinking, immune system, and improve their mood. If your child doesn’t have an established bedtime routine, here are some tips for you.

Creating a Successful Bedtime Routine

Set a Specific Time: Set a specific time for your child to go to bed. Eventually their body’s clock will adjust and sleep will come naturally. You’ll know their sleep if successful if they’re able to fall asleep within 15 to 30 minutes after getting in bed. Wind Down: Give them a short warning that it's time to relax and prepare for bed. They need to transition from active play time to relax mode. There shouldn’t be any vigorous activity at least half an hour before bedtime. Bedtime Snack: A light snack before bed can help them stay fueled through the night. It should be something light that includes protein and carbohydrates. Good options include a slice of whole-wheat bread with cheese or a bowl of whole-grain cereal with milk. Stick to food that isn't too heavy. They should brush their teeth before heading to bed. Warm Bath: Your child will feel sleepier after a warm bath when their body temperature slightly rises. Using a lavender soap or shampoo can make it even more relaxing, and playing with bath toys helps. Brief Goodnight: After the previous process, make your goodnight short and leave the room. Try not to come back if your child calls for you. Coming back can make them think you aren’t serious about bedtime.
